The Michigan Month-to-Month Rental Agreement allows property owners and landlords a means of renting property to tenants without setting a specific end date. As such, once signed, the contract will continue on forever until the lessor or lessee(s) decide to end it. A property manager may choose to rent a unit on a monthly basis over a yearly one because they 1) personally live in the property for part of the year, 2) cannot physically manage the rental for an extended period of time, or 3) would like a reason to charge higher rent. In order to end the contract, either party must notify the other (by writing) a minimum of one (1) month in advance. So long the said notice is given, the contract can be ended for any reason.
Statute: § 534.134
Required Notice to Terminate: One (1) month.
